Genki 2010

The Genki February meeting is well under way and plans for Genki 2010 are coming along smoothly. We will have a lot more information on this during next week (we are writing a meeting summary), so look forward to it.

Also, a rather early announcement; Genki has booked Vic Mignogna, the American voice actor who voiced Edward Elric of Fullmetal Alchemist, for Genki 2011. We’re kinda stoked about that 8D

The Danish site us now up again after having been down for 12 hours. There’s was a minor mishap with Kurikku updating the WordPress database since our customized theme is not compatible with the latest WordPress update which resulted in the customized theme ceasing to function. We managed to downgrade the database and the site is now operational again with any loss of data, so no harm done and lesson learned.

Also, Genki now has a LiveStream account: http://www.livestream.com/genkiTV
We will occasionally stream live and people are welcome to ask us questions via the livestream chat which we will then answer. After each live streaming, the entire video will be saved to our library (same page, scroll down) where they can be watched or re-watched at your leisure.

We will announce when we stream live on our forum (http://genki.dk/forum/index.php) as well as on our twitter account (http://twitter.com/GenkiDK), so be sure to check it out.

It’s time for yet another Genki meeting! Here’s all the info you’ll need:

Purpose: Finish the schedule (i.e. event and location planning) and have the groups start gathering the materials they need for their events. The managament group also needs to talk to all the smaller groups so we know how far along you are.

Address: Rådhusstræde 13, 1466 København; when you enter the ‘yard’, it’s the first door on your left (there’s a big sign above the door saying “Salon K”)

Date: February 26th and 27th (sleepover for those who want to)

Times: From 5 P.M. on Friday and until early Saturday afternoon (no specific time)

Food: We’ll have a break for lunch/dinner, but you have to pay on your own. There are various restaurants and fast food bars in the vicinity.

Other: We’ll chill out with anime and breakfast from the baker’s Saturday morning, courtesy of Genki (for those who’ve been at the meeting since Friday)

SPECIFIC GENKSTER MESSAGE!! For those of you who are interested; we have a guidet tour of some of the konference buildings in DGI Byen where we’re planning on having Genki 2011. Please show up so you have an idea of what kind of venues we have to work with. We meet up with Allan (2714 5525) at the Central Station at 1:45 P.M “under the clock”. The tour starts at 2 P.M., so please be on time.

December meeting:
A few of the Genksters got together for a meeting in December where the general structure and overview for Genki 2009 was set. Furthermore, the planning was seperated into phases with deadlines for each phase so that we (the Management Group) a certain about how far along each of the groups are on these specific dates.

New venues for Genki 2011 were also discussed as Genki is growing with tremendous speed and Valby Kulturhus would be far too crowded if a doubling of the expected number of guests for Genki 2010 were to occur in 2011.

Genki has gotten its own Twitter account! Check it out on twitter.com/GenkiDK! Our account will be used to help keep people up to date about stuff we’re planning, but aren’t really official yet and similar; a kind of Factory in phone text message length.

Here is briefly what we’ve updated:

New Genki sites:

• We now have our own forum, independent of dkneko.org.
• We now have a wiki called ‘Wenki‘ (Wiki + Genki = Wenki) for data and facts about Genki and other Nordic anime conventions.
• The Genksters (organizers) have a joint blog called ‘Factory‘ where random ideas for Genki will be presented and discussed. However, please note that none of the ideas are sure to be in the con until we post it in the Genki News (i.e. on this front page).

Other new stuff:

• By popular demand, we now have a Gallery page (if you have pictures from Genki events, send them in to our info mail at info@genki.dk and we’ll upload them as soon as possible).
• Also by popular demand, we now have a Staff page so people can see who the Genksters are and what they are responsible for at the con.
• A newbie guide is being written to help people who want to come to Genki, but have never been to a convention before and aren’t sure what to pack or expect.

Other changes:
We killed off the Swedish site, since we weren’t getting enough hits on it to make it worth the time and work it took to update it. As it turns out, most Swedish visitors only read the English page anyway. Other than this, there are no changes worth mentioning. Besides, exploring the site yourself is more fun than reading this ;3

We are starting our new website layout update and will work through out the night. When we’re finished, we’ll add a new post with updates and what we did, so don’t be afraid if something isn’t where it was before, it didn’t get deleted, it just got moved it to a more pertinent place! Thanks for your patience.
